Three great YouTube channels for science… and a bonus!

Do you ever use video content for your lessons? Whether it’s a quick clip to kick off a lesson and grab everyone’s attention, or a detailed documentary to deepen understanding, videos can help you tailor content to diverse learning styles. When you choose the correct video, you can increase engagement in your students and help clarify complex concepts with ease. You can use these in the class to break up your teaching, or include them in your resources as part of the pre-lab training. Plus, videos can be a great way to introduce students to new perspectives and innovative ideas, all while keeping the content fresh and relevant.

One thing to keep in mind – like any media you share with your students, be sure to preview the video content before you play it in class. You want to make sure that it aligns with your educational goals, presents factual information, and maintains classroom appropriateness. Happy viewing!

Here are three of our favorite YouTube channels for explaining science, in no particular order.

  • The Amoeba Sisters — These lively, cartoon-style educational videos simplify complex biology and science concepts, making them accessible and fun for students of all ages. They have a great video explaining the concepts of electrophoresis which can be used by your students in their pre-lab review. We think this video would pair well with any of our Ready-To-Load electrophoresis experiments.

And…. as a bonus….

  • Edvotek Video Tutorials — we have an extensive video library available for free on YouTube, including instructional content, how-tos, and equipment tutorials. Our videos provide hands-on, instructional content focused on biotechnology and molecular biology experiments, aimed at enhancing learning through visual demonstrations and detailed explanations. Many of our videos focus on answering common questions, like how many times can you reuse buffer!
