As we get to the end of our school year, it’s time to shout-out some of our outstanding kits, voted on by our staff here at Edvotek. So, without further adieu, here they are!

The EDGE™ Integrated Electrophoresis System revolutionizes biotechnology by merging an electrophoresis chamber, power supply and blue light into a single, safe and easy-to-use apparatus. It runs a 10 x 7 cm gel in less than 20 minutes with crisp band resolution while enabling real-time visualization of DNA migration.

Most Likely to Brighten Your Day: The TruBlu 2 and GFP transformation
In this experiment, students will explore the biological process of bacterial transformation using E. coli and plasmid DNA. This “programs” the bacteria to create the green fluorescent protein, which makes your bacteria glow beautiful and bright when excited with the blue light from the TruBlu2.

Cutest Couple: The M-12 and the TruBlu Jr
Our best-selling M12 Complete™ just got even better! The M12 Ultra™ includes the M12 Complete™ Electrophoresis Package and the all-new TruBlu™ Jr. Blue Light Transilluminator. This dynamic duo enables real-time visualization of SYBR® Safe or other blue light-reactive dye agarose gels.

Best Artist: Creating Masterpieces with Microbes
At the intersection of art, science, and technology is Bio-Art, the creation of works of art using living matter. One common way to create Bio-Art uses bacteria transformed with DNA codes for brightly-colored proteins. In this experiment, students create “Bio-Paints” using bacterial culture techniques. The color-producing microbes are painted onto an agar plate canvas. After incubation, students will inspect, admire, and hopefully share their living art.

Best Friends: Edvotek EDGE and Edvocycler Jr
The Edvotek EDGE™, EdvoCycler™ Jr., and 5-50µl Variable Micropipette are the perfect starter package for your classroom PCR lab! With a 16-sample block, the EdvoCycler™ Jr. features an intuitive touchscreen with real-time cycling data, active cooling, and storage for up to 100 PCR protocols. The all-new EDGE™ seamlessly combines an electrophoresis chamber, power supply and blue light into a single easy-to-use apparatus that can be used to load with the 5-50 µl micropipette and run your samples quickly in under 10 minutes!

Party Animal: Safari Family Reunion
In this lab, students will perform electrophoresis on the DNA samples of two lions in order to return them to wildlife sanctuaries close to their ancestral home.

Prom Queen: Bee-coming Royals: DNA Methylation of Honey Bees
In this experiment, students explore the effects of DNA methylation on restriction enzyme activity to determine whether samples belong to worker bee or queen bee larvae.
